This month Edge Protection was tasked to come up with a solution to allow the use of 7 balconies whilst the glass balustrade is on back order, the current site scaffolding was costing too much in weekly hire and was surplus to the needs of the site. The system required needed to allow full access and balcony use over the holiday period, whilst not compromising on safety.
Edge Protection System Used
After a short phone call with the contractor, we came to the agreement that the parapet clamp along with scaffold lip-ties would provide the edge protection required. We used scaffolding to add a lower rail than recommended within the construction to ensure the children within the occupancy were fully protected. At the time of installation, a scaffold was present for the installation team to work from. On removal, the team had to work from an EWP 7 stories high. Not work for the faint-hearted.
Benefits of Used System
One of the reasons that we decided to choose the edge rail system that we provide, is that it can integrate easily with a scaffold. The handrails are aluminium scaffold tubes of 48mm diameter, the same size as our existing scaffold stock connecting the lip ties in with out e-brackets meant we could put the lower handrail in with ease and with relative quickness.
As per the contractors request we didn’t have to fix into anything as the parapet clamp uses surface pressure to clamp the sides of the parapet therefore not require any patch-ups.
